Guru Nanak jayanti celebrated in Tangla

The 547th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, was celebrated in Tangla along with the rest of India on Wednesday. Special preparations were made for the day in the local gurdwara to celebrate the birth anniversary of the first guru of the Sikh religion, which falls on the day of Kartik Purnima every year. In Tangla the followers of the religion made a beeline to the gurdwaras since morning and took part in langar (community lunch), a tradition started by Guru Nanak to encourage brotherhood and fellow feeling among all sections, irrespective of caste and creed.

Tangla celebrated the birth anniversary  of freedom fighter Netaji Subash Chandra Bose with a day long programme on Saturday. In the morning National flag was hoisted by Malai Lahiri senior advocate Udalguri Bar Association and Ex-Chairman Tangla Town Committee. Professor Ashim Roy gave a brief speech on the ocassion. The villagers of Gohaikhat in the outskirts of Tangla has built a Mejhi Ghar in the form of a Titanic ship. The 26 ft long mejhi ghar has been built with the help of near about 70 bamboos by the villagers. Talking to this correspondent the villagers said that within 12 days they have made the giant structure. The structure is drawing great number of visitors from nearby places.
