Rima to host the Kathina Civara Dana

A small hilly town along the Indo-Myanmar border, Rima Village under Rima-Putok Circle of Nampong, Changlang district is all set to host the 8th Sacred Kathina Civara Dana cum Acharya Kanto Poi at Asoka Vihara from November 20 to 22 next. The Legislator of Changlang dist Shri Laisam Simai and ZPC Marina Kenglang will attend the religious event as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

The poi is expected to draw thousands of Theravada Buddhist and other Buddhist sects at Rima Village in Changalng district to witness the auspicious occasion during the three days of celebration. Buddhist Monks from Myanmar and from other Indian states will also attend the religious occasion. 

The Kathina Festival is a traditional Theravada Buddhist festival celebrated by lay Buddhist to offer new robes to bhikkhus besides bringing donations to temples. It is also a time of giving for the laity to express gratitude to bhikkhus (Buddhist monks). 

The three day festival will offer the lay Buddhist and visitors to see and understand the meaning behind conducting such religious event in Changlang district which has many programmes chalked out already by the celebration committee, informed President of Celebration committee, Venerable Bhikkhu Aggadhamma who is also the head monk of Namsai Buddha Pariyatti Sasana Vihara.

The major attraction of the 3-day event will include Khamsin-thom-tra (manglacharan), Tripitika pathana chanting besides hoisting of world Buddhist flag, Dhamma discourse, colourful procession, opening of kathina civara weaving centre, quiz competition, cultural programme, illumination of candle, Anekkacha (Buddhabhisheka), offering of Kathina Civara dana and acceptance of Pancha-sila (Dhamma Savanang).
