ABSU long march

The influential All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has again kicked off its long march for total revolution to creating peace, justice and development among society here at Kajigaon ground under Parbatjhora subdivision in the district on Wednesday. 

It was organised by Kokrajhar district unit of the students union where hundreds of student activists and volunteers took part from various parts of the district. 

The march will be covered up over 130 villages under four anchalik committees of Parbatjhora subdivision which will be concluded on November 3 at Tipkai where they will be holding meeting with villagers to discuss on the several issues like education, social integration, social development, listening, discussing, planning and working to meet total revolution in the region. 

Lawrence Islary, General Secretary of ABSU attending the inaugural of the march said that the students union has been organising long march since 2013 to meet good living, healthy society, development and working for integration in thd region. He said that the common publics are facing lots of hardships in several fronts of social aspects like education, health, communication due to non initiatives from government. 

'The long march was organised to creating awareness about educational, social upliftment, economic sustainable steps among common publics through bringing of total revolution in the area', Islary said. 

The march will meet villagers in close contact where they would talk with villagers on core issues of education, economic sustainable, social security, stop of superstition, equal distribution and rights,  he said adding that society should get equal distribution and rights to the front of social security. 

Jadav Pegu, SDO Parbatjhora graced the ceremony as chief guest and flagged off the march in the presence of peace brigade and public. He has lauded the initiative taken from the students union to the greater interest of social upliftment and development among common masses. 

'It is a innovative and necessary step to build a healthy situation taking from the students union among society'. He has expressed his confidence that common society will get social change and integration through the long march. 

An awareness meeting in connection with long march was also organised earlier of the day with Janak Ujir, vice president of the Kokrajhar district unit ABSU on the chair. 

Sahitya Academy awarded Janil Kumar Brahma, noted social worker Niranjan Brahma, several organisation leaders were prominent attendies who were present on the day.

Water resources minister Basanta Das visited the flood affected areas of Chirang district and assessed the loss of damages by the recent flood on Sunday.He visited the flood affected areas and Aie River bank erosion site at Dumgaon,  Palangsubari (Thulsijhora) and Goraimari as well as at Aipoali.Talking to reporters, Das said the excessive rainfall in the district had inundated several low lying areas and caused large scale destruction. The district administration has been asked to assess the loss and compensation to be given to the affected people.He was accompanied by MLA Bhupen Ray, BTC MCLAs Rwngwra Narzary, Maoti Brahma Hazowary, Nirmal Kr.Brahma and Chirang DC Rupak Kr. The flood affected people at Joypur Namapara in Kokrajhar staged protest on Sunday alleging gross anomalies in the supply of relief materials at the instance of a circle of middleman.Flood affected villagers told reporters that some middlemen from the area received huge quantity of the relief rations from district administration. Revenue minister Bhumidhar Barman and water resources minister Basanta Kumar Das visited Kokrajhar to take stock of the flood situation in the district on Saturday. The duo reviewed the situation at a meeting of district administration officials and MLAs and BTC administration representatives at the Circuit House in Kokrajhar. Security forces captured yet another dreaded NDFB (Songbijit) militant in Chirang district on Wednesday who was involved in the gory Adivasi massacre in 2014. Identified as Saranjoy Musahary, who was involved in the Adivasi carnage was held by a joint team of police and CRPF from Patabari area in the wee hours during a combing operation by Police and CRPF's Cobra battalion. He was believed to have killed at least ten Adivasi people in Lungsung forest area in Kokrajhar district in December last year.Police further seized a grenade was from the Myanmar-trained militant.
