There is no trace of the two drivers from Mancachar who went missing from Chokpot area in South Garo hills on Saturday. Popularly known as Akidul Islam and Billul Miyan, the duo were suspected to have been kidnapped by militants from across the interstate border. Ravaged roads and bridges have been causing no less inconvenience for the people in the North Garo Hills for the last couple of years. Repeated requests for fresh look have been fallen on deaf ears. This has forced the Garo Students Union (GSU) of the Northern Zone to hit the streets on Saturday demanding steps to repair the roads and bridges from Mendipathar to Gajingpara in the district.
