The flood fury in Meghalaya takes an alarming where a minor girl met watery grave in Tura. The tragic incident took place in the Asibra area where the surging waters of the river Ganol washed away a 9 year old school girl on Tuesday night. "Her body has yet to be traced till 1 in the afternoon even after the search operation by the district and disaster management authority," said West Garo Hills deputy commissioner Pravin Bakshi. Garo Hills DDMA reviewed the overall situation at an emergency meeting on Wednesday where the prevailing conditions of vulnerable schools and safety of children in Tura was discussed. According to the Deputy Commissioner, informed, “with IMD warning extending upto August 23 to 24, other district authorities have directed the closure of the schools on August and 21."
William Nagar in Tura is gearing up for the Christmas festival which falls from December 24. The entire area along with other places across Meghalaya seems to have dressed afresh. A songchristian competition pulled huge crowd on Sunday organized by the Karukol Cultural Development Committee at Karukol Playground. Many villages participated in the event to be mesmerized by the songchristian dances. KCDC Secretary Prosper S Marak conducted the programme while its chairman Raksley Momin welcomed the participants. Piting Sangma, deacon of Karukol Church delivered his speeches on the words of God.
