Protest over rape and murder at Margherita

Margherita on Wednesday witnessed a huge protest in front of SDO office by Margherita College Students Union, National Student Union of India (NSUI), Chaatra Mukti Sangram Samity, All Asam Hindu Student Union, All Tea Tribe Student Union of Margherita, local citizens and the family members of the deceased girl. Numbered in thousands, the protestors also burnt tyres at National Highway 38.

On the of Raksha Bandhan August 29, Margherita College B Com student Miss Thuking Tikhak was raped and murdered by some youths. 

Margherita Police and Ledo Police nabbed three youths from Ledo area who were behind these brutual gang rape and murder on august 31. The tro have been identified as Faizur Rehman, Nuruddin Laskar and Nasiruddin Laskar hails from Nagaon and were engaged as daily wage labourers.

Pappu Dutta, president of Chaatra Mukti Sangram Samity said to Assam Times that the subdivisional administration and police should install CCTV Cameras throughout the town area.

Meanwhile Margherita SDO Inamuddin Ahmed and Police Station Inspector Hiranya Kumar Borah camled the agitators and assured strict punishment to the three criminals.

The Margherita unit of BJP has suspended its president Bhim Karmakar for 5 days in connection with the recent acrimonious situation at a party function in Tinsukia.Party insiders told Assam Times that Karmakar was allegedly involved in the scuffle that took place at the function attended by Siddhartha Bhattacharya where the party workers tried to be flanked by the State president on November 16.
