Good news for 6 communities

Tai Ahom, Koch Rajbanshi, Moran, Mutocks  along with two others are likely to get ST status.

The good news for the six communities has come from the Centre when the six ethnic community leaders hunkered down with Union tribal affairs minister Juel Ornam in New Delhi on Thursday.

Flanked by sports minister Sarbabanda Sonowal, Ornam said the Centre will have to change the modalities in the soon to be held cabinet meeting.

After the seal of approval from the cabinet, the modalities would be ready. It would take two or three months to complete the entire proceedings.

Later the delegation talked to union home minister Rajnath Singh at his official residence.

The move assumed significance despite the escalating protest of the existing ST people.

The other two are tea tribes and Sutiya not chutia. Ahom ,  Koch and Sutiya were ruling class of Assam during medievel period. Next time please name the ''other two'' as sentiments are related to it.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court is hearing a petition alleging a huge scam in the selection of candidates for ACS, APS and allied service candidate by the Assam Public Service Commission in 2013. But, Akhil Gogoi, the petitioner is absent from the proceedings since he has been languishing in the Dibrugarh Central Jail under the National Srcurity Act. Noted lawyer Prashant Bhushan us appearing on behalf of the petitioner who moved the plea before the country's top court many days ago. The court ruling assumes significance after a special operation unit probing the scam has already arrested 23 out if 25 accused officers who have been jailed recently.
Several people including a journalist sustained injury when dsecurity forces sprang upon a group of people as the tried to disrupt an eviction drive at a reserved forest in the outskirt of Guwahati on Monday. NAMRUP: A group of BJP leaders and workers openly expressed displeasure with AGP MLA Naren Sonowal, who allegedly has not been listening to them. At a booth level meeting in Namrup, the party's local leaders alleged that Sonowal has not been doing enough for them during the last one and a half years. GUWAHATI:A special court in Guwahati on Sunday remanded Rajarshi Sen Deka to custody after the arrested ACS officer was produced before it. The special operation unit set up to probe the scam produced the son of former minister Nilomoni Sen Deka before the court as the police custody ended on Saturday. Deka surrendered before the police nearly a week after he was remaining underground.
