It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

Violent protest broke out in Azara as the angry local residents on Friday clashed with policemen who resorted to lathicharge to disperse the mob. As policemen started beating up the people, a section of the protesters pelted stones at the policemen. The protestors alleged that the police have been trying to call it an accident. A section of media people has been injured in the violent protest.
Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday accused of running nefarious cartel of meat, fish and onion across the state. Talking to reporters in Guwahati, state unit president Sarbananda Sonowal said that the Congress government has been patronizing the cartel. He said that these cartels were responsible for soaring onion prices. He further dared the government to take action against these cartel runners.
Tension prevails in Azara after police recovered two bodies of unidentified girls from J ogipara who were raped and murdered on October 22 midnight. The situation started simmering as soon police tried to justify it a case of car accident. Local residents in large number refused to leave the police station premise alleging that the police officials are taking the side of the culprits. Someone among the irate mob set on fire the WagoneR seized in this connection. Guwahati MP Bijoya Chakrabortty visited the police station and asked the police office to efficiently deal with the crime. She further asked the agitated people to remain calm.
Two person were killed and two others have been injured in a road mishap in Jorhat district on Friday. The mishap took place early in the morning on the National Highway at Koliapani when a speeding dumper knocked down four persons who were walking. Two died on the spot while two others including a minor boy have been injured. The deceased were identified as Shiva Kurmi and Madhab Gogoi. The dumper managed to flee from the spot.
Rhino poaching refuses to halt in Kaziranga. Poachers have killed yet another rhino in the famed Kaziranga National Park. The incident took place on Thursday night at the Burhapahar range. Hearing sounds of shooting forest gaurds launched an operation where an encounter took place. The poachers were believed to have left the spot even after killing a full grown rhino. The body was spotted at a water body in the wee hours. The horn was found intact. With this, the total number of rhinos killed in Kaziranga has gone up to 35.
Yet another gruesome twin murder case sent anger and shockwave across the state where two girls were raped and murdered near the Borjhar airport. The entire sensational case came to light when police interrogated the driver and owner of a car after it was found abandoned near the railline. After marathan interrogation, the driver confessed that he along two others killed two girls and the bodies were broght in the vehicle to be dumped at a waterbody beside of the rail line. One semi naked body was found on Thursday while the another was found in the hours on Friday. Those arrested include Nripen Das, Kishore Das....drivers and the owner of the vehicle Gopal Barman.
Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi's son Gaurav married Elizabeth Colburn, an English girl at a high profile wedding ceremony in Delhi where traditional Ahome formalities were observed on Wednesday night. The killer dengue continues to unleash terror in the state. The latest victim is a girl in Lakhimpur. Identified as Ilora Marang, the fashion designing student in Guwahati stayed in Zoo road area where she fell ill. She left for her home in Bihpuria. But no test was conducted. Despite treatment her condition deteriorated. Then blood test cofirmed it a dengue case. The family members took h er to the hospital. But she died on the way to the hospital.
A powerful Improvised Explosive Devise weighing 1.5 kg was seized from Hajo in Kamrup district on Tuesday. Normal rail traffic remains disrupted after six oil tanker bogies of a goods train derailed in Dima Hasao district on Tuesday.The accident took place in between Harengajao and Migrandisa in the district.According to the Northeast Frontier Railway, the tankers carrying petroleum products jumped the tracks in the morning on the Lumding-Badarpur section. The engine of the train was not damaged as the tankers were six bogies behind it. However, none was injured.It has disrupted movement of trains, including Agartala-Lumding Express, Barak Valley Express and other local trains at different places.
