Assamese travel fiction released

It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

Akhil Gogoi is likely to land in trouble. Puaram Sarania’s father has filed an FIR against the KMSS president alleging his involvement in the recent self immolation of his son in Dispur.Sarania on Friday went to the Tangla police station and blamed it all on Gogoi for his son’s death after the self-immolation attempt.Notably, Dispur police station alone has two cases pending against Gogoi.

Former Union home secretary GK Pillai is scheduled to visit BTAD areas on March 4.The schedule was finalized in New Delhi on Friday when the union home ministry officials held talks with several Bodo organizations.ABSU and BPPF have opposed the one member panel of expert set up to study and examine the demands.       
RAJU BARUAH FROM TEZPURA road accident has created no less tension in Tezpur on Friday where an irate mob spared not even policemen and journalist.The road accident took place at 11 in the morning where a women, identified as Rubia Begum, was killed on the spot at Bhitior pora under Mohabhoirab police outpost.Local residents in large number who took to the street turned violent where policemen who rushed to the spot were attacked along with media people.Senior police officials rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.  
The AG-BJP pre poll alliance seems to have mired in uncertainty again if Sarbananda Sonowal is to be beleived. AGP top leaders are camping in New Delhi to ensure the pact. But state BJP unit is averse to it.State party unit president Sarbananda Sonowal told reporters in Dibrugarh that the talks for poll alliance has not progressed a lot.According to him, the grassroot level party workers are not interested in forging any tie up with the regional party.
Stunned by unabated rhino poaching, Dispur is seriously considering a proposal to set up an animal police station in Kaziranga.Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told reporters in Dispur on Friday that the process is on for clearance. He hoped that the police station---first of its kind in the noth east would help the world heritage site save the one horn rhinos.Notably, poachers have killed 8 rhinos for horns during the last two months.
