It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..
CM Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday claimed to have expedited the process to update NRC. Talking to reporters in Guwahati, he alleged that a section of political leaders has been trying to halt the process to gain political mileage. Indirectly taking on Badaruddin Ajmal, Gogoi said that it would a long way to solve the decade old problem of influx in the state. Gogoi's comment assumes significance after the AIUDF boss feared that NRC is a conspiracy against the Muslims.
A hardcore NDFB-S rebel died at an encounter with security forces in Sonitpur district on Monday. The encounter took place at Chariduwar area along the Assam-Arunachal pradesh border in the wee hour. Identified as Engrai the rebel succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. Army and police seized a bike, grenade and a pistol from his possession.
The induction of 4 new faces would take time for chief minister Tarun Gogoi. Gogoi told Assam Times in New Delhi that he did not talk to Rahul Gandhi on Sunday as the party vice president was busy with kisan rally. "This time I will submit the list only. Then I will have to wait," Gogoi told Assam Times.
In yet another boost for BJP a veteran AGP leader from Titabor joined the ruling party at the centre. He was AGP veteran Hemanta Kalita who joined BJP at a function along with over 100 supporters. State BJP president Siddharth Bhattacharya who was present in the function called a positive sign for the party. He said Kalita's coming would give the party a fresh strength a year before the assembly poll.
One person was killed and many houses were ravaged when a powerful storm hit Lakhimpur district on Sunday. The storm began at 4.30 in the wee hours damaging over 200 houses apart from disrupting surface communication in a huge area of the district. The worst-hit area is Nahoroni where one person died in the storm. Identified as Khirud Bora, he died as the house collapsed on him under the impact of the calamity. It would require 3 or 4 days to restore communications.

The stage is set for chief minister Tarun Gogoi to expand his cabinet again. Talking to Assam Times in the sidelines of a bihu function in Gurgaon on Saturday, Gogoi said he was waiting for Rahul Ghandhi's green signal to complete the formality. "I am trying to meet Rahulji on Sunday to get his seal of approval. Then I can proceed," Gogoi told Assam Times in the sidelines of the Bihu function. Gogoi who arrived in New Delhi will attend the kishan rally.

A local court in Guwahati remanded Anil Chauhan to 5 days police custody again on Saturday. The Kamrup CJM allowed Basistha police to take the carlifter in its remand when he was produced before it in connection with a few cases pending against him. More and more trouble await Rumi Nath after she was sent to jail. Dispur police rescued a child labourer from her official residence on Saturday. Acting on a tip off, a team of Dispur with the help of Childline conducted a raid at her official residence where a minor girl worker was found to have been working. Police have registered a case against the MLA for illegally keeping the minor.
