It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

Over 250 people hailing from the state are believed to have been missing after the 7.4 magnitude earthquake originated in Nepal on Saturday. They, mostly, were on visit to Kathmandu for eye treatment. A 6 member family from Morigaon district has been missing in the capital city of Nepal after the massive tremor on Saturday. Hailing from Sapbari area, they were on visit to Kathmandu for eye treatment. "Despite efforts we have been failing to get them over telephone," family members told Assam Times.
Three people died and several others sustained injury when a 7.4 magnitude tremor jolted the state along with other eastern states on Saturday. Originated in Kathmandu, the tremor was felt at 11.48 in the morning where 3 people died. They include a person in Mongoldoi who sustained injury as he was running out of his rattling house. Two others succumbed to injuries in Bongaigaon. A number of buildings developed crack after the quake. These include the Guwahati DC Office and IIT Building.
Moderate tremor strikes NE: A 7.4 moderate tremor struck the north east and other northen states on Saturday noon triggering no less panic among the people. The tremor rattled the north eastern region at 11.48 noon for 50 seconds forcing many panic stricken people in Guwahati to come down to the streets from the high rise buildings. The epicentre of the earthquake occurred some 29 km ESE of Lamjung, Nepal according to According to United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Seven people died and five others have been battling for life when the vehicle carrying them collided head on a dumper in Tinsukia district on Friday. The accident took place in front of the Lion's Club in Digboi in the wee hour when the vehicle carrying the bihu troup collided head on a dumper on the way back from Kakopothar. Five people died on the spot while two others died on the way to the hospital. Local residents extricated the injured from the mangled vehicle along with the bodies. Talking to Assam times local residents blamed rash driving for the tragic accident.

The enforcement directorate probing the financial transction in Saradha grilled Anjan Dutta in Kolkata on Wednesday. Sources told Assam Times that the ED offices grilled the APCC president for two hours to ascertain his real transction with Sudipto Sen.
Atleast 20 people including children have fallen ill after they ate lunch dinner at a marriage ceremony in Nalbari on Wednesday.It took place in Ghograpar area where a section of people complained of vomitting after they ate lunch served at a local marriage ceremoney in the afternoon. All they are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
After Hemanta Kalita , more and more AGP leaders are preparing to join the saffrone party. AGP leader and former minister Jagadish Bhuyan is set to join the party soon. Sources told Assam Times that Bhuyan met BJP leadership to clear the formalities. Bhuyan is set to quit the party in a day or two. Jorhat AGP leader Hemanta Kalita joined the party on Tuesday.
