Along with the rest of the world “World Environment Day” was observed at Raha on Friday with a day long programme in the Raha PWD inspection bunglaw premise by Nagaon district administration in association with the local administration. Indigenous tree plantation programme was successfully held with the guest of honour Brajen Das, ADC, Nagaon , Arabinda Kalita , S P, Nagaon, Utpal Moni Baishya , CO, CRPF , Nagaon, followed by the other invited guests .
In the begining of the programme , Anindita Kashyap , Circle officer ( in-charge ) , Raha, briefly explained the objectives and importance of the day.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Brajen Das, ADC , Nagaon who was special guest, said the lack of mass awareness was the biggest gap leading to various activities of environment destruction. He encouraged the students and all present on the occasion to involve in the community activities in contributing something to bring good changes and save the earth.
Arabinda Kalita , S P, Nagaon, in his speech appealed to the students to dedicate themselves for the cause of preserving and protecting the environment. He explained the importance of the day to the students present in the programme. Stating that ' A tree is equivalent to ten sons' he asked the students to plant a tree around their home or their school premise. He said that it is high time that we all care to learn more about the present environmental issues and become conscious and responsible citizen. He therefore called for collective action and responsibility to ensure for the future generation that the earth they inherit is a better place as it is suppose to be.
Another speaker Utpal Moni Baishya , CO , CRPF , Nagaon, stressed the importance of “collective effort for a positive environmental action by becoming responsible agents of change”.
The students community of the nearby school also planted more than 200 plants under the guidence of their teachers.
