The All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) expressed displeasure over the non printed of NRC application form in Bodo language, as the Bodo language being under the recognition of the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India has the full right by its speakers and users in India to be used in all forms of government and as medium in later and spirit.
In a press release issued by Lawrence Isalry,General Secretary and Kwrwmdao Wary, secretary of the students union said that the process of NRC registration is very unfortunate for the indigenous Bodo People of Assam. It has been learned that the information as provided in the website of Assam NRC and Seva Kendras (NSKs) reveals that the schedule for the NRC form distribution has started.
The union leaders said atht the students union today submitted a memorandum to the Director of Citizens Registration, Assam regarding the matter of NRC application form not printed in Bodo language. However, it is very unfortunate that the forms available in the entire state are only in English, Assamese and Bengali. The Bodo language being under the recognition of the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India has the full right by its speakers and users in India to be used in all forms of government and as medium in later and spirit. The Bodos are the third largest number of population in using Bodo language in the state as instructional in institutions with comparison to Assamese and Bengali. There are more than 30 lakhs Bodos in the entire state who can read and write in Bodo language, hence these large group of community would be deprived from the fair process of citizen registration in their known mother tongue language, which is a constitutional right denial by the state. Such a denial to the indigenous citizens of this country would be a great injustice to the Bodo people. The entire BTAD districts and other parts of Assam are seen to be deprived form such a process in using own language for fair ends of justice.
Therefore, the students union strongly demanded to make the forms for citizen registration available in Bodo language in the entire state wherever Bodos are there and extend the schedule dates for the closure of submission of the forms beyond July end as notified.
The union has also demanded printing application in Bodo langauge for the cause of the Bodos who are subject to such discrimination in the process of citizen registration being the indigenous citizen of this country, the union adding said that the union will keep an eye to the process in good spirit for the smooth operationalization of the citizens’ registration process, the release said.
