Humanity award for Aruna Roy
Noted social activist Aruna Roy will receive the prestigious Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award 2016. The Jury Board of the Upendra Nath Brahma Trust (UNBT) headed by Dr. Anil Boro, Associate Professor, Gauhati University finalized Roy for the award to be given away at a function in Rabindra Bhawan in
Guwahati on August 26.
Roy, a social activist is the co-founder of the Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathana (MKSS), a social and grassroots organization for the empowerment of workers and peasants. It is a major civil rights movement in India and played a crucial role in the establishment of the Right to Information Act (RTI). She is also served as a civil servant in the Indian Administrative Service before deciding to dedicate herself fully to social and political campaigns.

The footballers died when the vehicle carrying them along with ten others collided head on another goods vehicle in Sonitpur district on Sunday.
The tragic incident that left 12 others injured took place at Depota area near Tezpur town when the vehicle was carrying a football team back to Tikoria tea garden after a match at Kothalguri.
The injured are battling for life at the Tezpur Medical College Hospital. The condition of three injured is said to be critical.

A group of six ethnic communities are hunkering down with the Centre on Thursday in New Delhi to arrive at a conclusion on the ST status.
Accompanied by Union sports minister Sarbanadan Sonowal, tribal affairs minister Jural Ornam talked to the ethnic leaders at 11 in the morning which ended at 1 in the afternoon.
The ethnic leaders remained firm on their demands while the Union ministers assured them of steps to ensure ST status for six communities. The meeting assumes significance amid an escalating demand from the existing ST people to stop the move.
The ethnic leader are scheduled to meet Union home minister Rajnath Singh in the evening.

Hojai: Believers Eastern Church Satgaon Diocese conducted it's 1st Annual Convention recently at Paklongkam playground, Karbi Anglong.
With the theme, "Believers the Light of the world " the Convention was inaugurated by Fr N Khumba, Vicar General Diphu Diocese.
Rev Fr Thanghao D,Diocesan Secretary Satgaon Diocese hoped that the Convention would foster brotherhood among one another.
Rev Fr S Singson, Principal BEC Major Seminary, Jorhat encouraged the participants to be the light for the Society.
Beside this Cultural function was also held with various communities from Karbi,Kuki,Nepali, Garo,Bodo performing their cultural dance. Competition activities like Song, Dance,recitation were also conducted under the leadership of Dn Sarsing Signar.
The program was attended by many ordained priest and Deacon of Believers Eastern Church.
