20 rescued

At least 20 persons including 17 girls belonging from displaced and socially excluded Adhivasi community hailing from the various corner of the Kokrajhar district were rescued from Kokrajhar railway station while heading towards Tamil Nadu today in Trivandrum train.

The rescued were given false promise of job in Tamil Nadu by the agent call Bablu, who hail in West Bengal bordering state with Kokrajhar district of Assam. While girls were detained at Kokrajhar Bablu who was waiting at Jalpaiguri was constantly in conversation with girls though phone.

NEDAN, an NGO based in Kokrajhar as a part of anti human trafficking in North East Region rescued the girls with the help of Kokrajhar railway police and Kokrajhar police.

All the 17 girls are from different place of Kokrajhar and Chirang district of BTC Assam. Among the seventeen girls seven of them were already working in Tamil Nadu and they came to take other girls in the false hope of giving job with the help of agent.

Conflict and poverty is the main reason for being an easy prey in the hands of trafficker. The girls seem to come from extremely poor family background. Assam is one of the trafficking hub in North East India. Today’s incident shows the gravity of the trafficking scenario in North East.

Security forces have intensified their combing operation against militant outfits in the region.  Three link men/over ground worker of the National Democratic Front of Boroland-Songbijit faction were apprehended by security forces in a joint operation at Ripu Reserve Forest on Sunday morning in Kokrajhar district. Fakiragram bazar turn into ashes

Over 15 shops along the Fakiragram main Bazar in Lower Assam’s Kokrajhar district have turned into ashes.  The fire damaged worth of nearly 50 lakhs properties following fire in gutted on Friday late night. Businessman attacked

A businessman was hospitalized after attacked with sharp weapon by miscreants at Champa bazaar area on Friday evening in Kokrajhar district. He was identified as Tamizaddin Anza ri (32) of Mozabari area. He was immediately rushed to Kokrajhar RNB civil hospital and stated to be critical. Details is awaited. 

Vehicular thief arrested

Salakati police in Kokrajhar district arrested a vehicular thief late last night at Salakati rail track.  He was identified as Naba Das of Belsar in Nalbari district, who was involved with stealing of a four wheeler Mahindra pick up van bearing registration AS-16C-2207. An FIR was registered no.138/16 with Salakati police outpost in this connection, under section (u/s) 457/380/411 IPC. 

KLO ultra held

In a joint operation launched by the security forces from Assam Police and Army apprehended a cadre of Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO) at Salakati village under Kokrajhar PS on Friday.  He was identified as Sonaram Roy of Balagaon area of Kokrajhar district. Mock drill in Kokrajhar

An emergency response mock drill was conducted by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Habrubari in Kokrajhar district on Friday,which was a part of offsite emergency mock on the IOCL Guwahati-Siliguri underground pipeline to test the preparedness of its emergency personnel. A live fire fighting exercise was carried out alongside the drill by Fire and Rescue Services personnel.
