Gamlin joins as Delhi chief secy

Despite stiff resistance from Arvind Kejriwal and his lobby senior IAS officer from Assam Shakuntala Gamlin took over as Delhi chief secretery. 

Shakuntala, the daughter of former minister Lalit Doley and wife of former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Jarbom Gamlin has alleged intimidation by a section of bureacrates not to take over. 

He was Lt Governor Jung who appointed her in the top post defying the chief minister's opposition who calls her corrupt.

Opposition consensus candidate Haidor Hussain said that he would further refrain from active political party.After his defeat in the Rajya Sabha polls on Friday, he told reporters in Dispur that his defeat was on the expected line in view of the gradual erosion of unity among the Opposition parties.But he said he agreed to give his consent to the proposal in view of overwhelming support from across the state. He had to remain satisfied with only 26 votes.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that he was the happiest of all in the Congress to have ensured the victory of the two ruling party candidates apart from the BPF candidate in the Rajya Sabha polls.Talking to reporters after the announcement of the poll results in Dispur, Gogoi criticized the Opposition unity saying that an unholy alliance does not last long.

Its victory for Bhubneswar Kalita, Dr Sanjay Sinh and Biswajeet Daimary in the Rajya Sabha polls on Friday.Congress candidates Bhuneswar Kalita and Dr Singh got 32 votes each while the alliance BPF candidate got 29 votes. Haidor Hussain had to remain satisfied with 26 votes.In a major setback for the Opposition camp, six votes stood cancelled. This has become a staggering blow for the prospect of the Opposition consensus candidate.       Barring Ataur Rahman Majarbhuyan, all legislators have exercised their franchise for the three seats in the Upper House.
Hundreds of KMSS activists in Silchar staged protest in protest against the absence of Katigarh MLA Ataur Rahman Majarbhuyan in the Rajya Sabha polling on Friday which paved the way for easy win for Congress and BPF candidates.Shouting slogans against the MLA the protestors warned him of dire consequences in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and in the next assembly polls.Later police rushed to the spot and disperse the protestors.
