The Hailakandi district administration has suspended at least 30 school teachers alleging dereliction in their duties. This was followed by serving show cause notice to deputy inspector of schools Nripen Das and block education officer Arun Singh for failing to rein in these teachers. The strict action took place when deputy commissioner Shamsher Singh was on his surprise visit to the Lakhirbond High Madrassa where 15 teachers were found absent. Security forces claimed to have killed two militants of the Garo National Liberation Front in an encounter with the Army at Hudakona in Nalbari district on Thursday. According to information, the gun battle took place in the wee hours where the militants were killed on the spot.
