Shakuntala, the daughter of former minister Lalit Doley and wife of former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Jarbom Gamlin has alleged intimidation by a section of bureacrates not to take over.
He was Lt Governor Jung who appointed her in the top post defying the chief minister's opposition who calls her corrupt.

Students are thronging in thousands at Dudhnoi to join AAS’s 16th Convention which gets underway on Monday.Local AASU organizers told Assam Times that over 5,000 delegates from different parts of the state are arriving in the venue to join the convention.Apart from AASU, many organizations have also sent representatives to make the convention a success.The convention assumes significance in view of adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharjee’s formal exit on Tuesday. The student body would elect another influential leader as adviser.
All Assam Students’ Union adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharyya is all set to quit politics. His exit would formally take place at the AASU convention in Dudhnoi on Tuesday.After his ceremonial exit, the AASU adviser would not join politics and would stay away from any electoral politics.The student leader was the AASU general secretary for three terms from 1989 to 1999. Later he was elected as advisor of the state’s powerful organization for two tenures.

The Nagaland government has recommended CBI probe into the mob lynching of Sayeed Farid Khan.The government has written to the country’s premier investigation agency seeking a thorough probe into the bizarre incident where rape accused who hails from Assam was lynched by a violent mob on the street after being dragged out of the Dimapur Central Jail on March 25.Police have caught over 30 goons in this connection apart from disciplinary action against the jail authority.Various parties and organizations have called it a conspiracy against the non Naga people in Dimapur.
