Simmering dissidence seems to have resurfaced in Congress legislative party hardly a year before the assembly polls. This time the entire high voltage drama centres around Speaker Pranab Gogoi.
Sources in New Delhi told Assam Times that chief minister Tarun Gogoi being aided and abetted by PCC president Anjan Dutta are in a mission to unseat Pranab Gogoi as Speaker.
“The development is in crucial stage with party high command. Senior cabinet minister Dr Bhumidhar Barman is likely to replace the legislator from Sivasagar assembly constituency,” said a senior AICC leader.
He said that it may take time. But Gogoi and Dutta want the Speaker to be replaced when the chief minister would be expanding his cabinet with the induction of four new faces.
“The chief minister and Anjan Dutta have convinced Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi of the poll prospect if the Speaker is unseated,” he said adding that the high command has agreed in principle.
Gogoi has also camping in New Delhi to meet the high command to apprise them of the state’s political scenario.

Natural disasters like floods are devastating. Women are the worst sufferers during disasters. The impact of flooding on health varies among populations and depends primarily on vulnerability and the kind of events experienced. It severely disrupts livelihoods and has a significant impact on the health of pregnant women, lactating mothers and children. It is important that pregnant and lactating mothers have adequate access to an appropriate dietary intake as both mothers and children are disproportionately affected in crisis.
Under the humanitarian response programme of the North-East Affected Area Development Society (NEADS), a local grassroots organisation has been extending essential...
