Kartik Hazarika no more

Former AGP leader and cultural activist Kartik Hazarika passed away hours after he underwent liver surgery at the Apollo Hospital in Chennai on Monday.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many organizations and individuals have condoled Hazarika’s death and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. Hazarika was one of the leaders of the Assam Agitation. 

The Asom Gana Parishad will keep its flag half mast for the next three days to condole the death of the founder leader of the party.

A hard of wild elephants has been unleashing a reign of terror in Demow during the last couple of days.One person was trampled to death by wild elephants on Friday night sending shock and anger against the forest department in the entire area.The incident took place at Chitolia where wild elephants trampled to death a local villagers Rajen Doley at night.Local residents told Assam Times that despite repeated appeal the forest department has done precious little to curb the menace.
The BJP panel set up to probe the voting anomaly in the Rajya Sabha poll submitted its findings on Friday.Senior BJP leaders told Assam Times that the report was submitted before the state party president Sarbananda Sonowal for action against the legislator who intentionally got his vote cancelled. Suspected GNLA militants kidnapped two businessmen from West Garo hills district in Meghalaya on Friday.According to information, four armed youths whisked the duo away from Gaattuli area on their way back from the market in the afternoon. Delhi police have detained at least 25 north eastern students when they staged dharna in Vijoy Chowk demanding justice for the Nido Tania, who was killed by goons in Lajpotnagar. The students, mostly, from Jawaharlal Nehru University suddenly staged blocked the road leading to the Rashtrapati Bhawan shouting slogans for justice to Nido Tania.Despite appeal, police resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse the agitating students. At least 20 JNU students have been detained.
