Gauhati University has conferred honourary doctorate to linguist Pramod Chandra Bhattacharya, witch hunting survivor Birubala Rabha and Jadav Payeng, who afforested 550 hectares of land near the Brahmaputra.

They received the degree from chancellor PB Acharya at the convocation ceremony at the varsity campus on Monday.

Bhattacharya is known for his researched on language and culture of different indigenous communities of Assam while Birubala has been waging war against witch hunting. Payeng stole the limelight for their his afforestation initiatives.
