Centre’s NO to ST status

The centre has rejected the demands for ST status to six ethnic tribes forcing many organizations to hit the streets.

Ministry for tribal affairs sources told Assam Times in New Delhi that after a thorough study the authorities have  rejected the demands ST status for tea garden workers, Ahoms, Koch Rajbanshi, Chutias and Muttocks citing lack of laid down norms.

The decision is set to run into a hail of protest in Delhi and Dispur. The demand was long standing and both Delhi and Dispur have been assuring these ethnic tribes of their due status for the last ten years.

Both Congress and BJP promised S status for the 6 ethnic tribes for overall uplift.

This exposes the governments scandalous motives and false poll promises. This also goes against the spirits of the Pro Talks faction of ULFA , whom the government had promised the STfication of the state .Successive governments have done this and the present has proved that they are no better than the previous.

HSLC, AHM Exams get underway

GUWAHATI: Amid an unprecedented security bandobast, the High School Leaving Certificate Examination and High Madrasa Examinations 2018 begin on Friday across the state. Altogether 3,44,190 candidates have appeared in the HSLC examination  conducted by the Secondary Education Board of Assam at 852 centres. Of them 176,308 are female while 167,882 others are male.   On the other hand, 5,225 female candidates are appearing in the AHM examination against 4,118 male students. Chopper crashes in Majuli: pilots dead

JORHAT: Two pilots dead when the chopper in which they were travelling crash landed in Majuli on Thursday. The incident took place at 1 in the afternoon as the IAF chopper left Rowiah on a routine sortie.
