Centre’s NO to ST status

The centre has rejected the demands for ST status to six ethnic tribes forcing many organizations to hit the streets.

Ministry for tribal affairs sources told Assam Times in New Delhi that after a thorough study the authorities have  rejected the demands ST status for tea garden workers, Ahoms, Koch Rajbanshi, Chutias and Muttocks citing lack of laid down norms.

The decision is set to run into a hail of protest in Delhi and Dispur. The demand was long standing and both Delhi and Dispur have been assuring these ethnic tribes of their due status for the last ten years.

Both Congress and BJP promised S status for the 6 ethnic tribes for overall uplift.

This exposes the governments scandalous motives and false poll promises. This also goes against the spirits of the Pro Talks faction of ULFA , whom the government had promised the STfication of the state .Successive governments have done this and the present has proved that they are no better than the previous.

ACS officer among 5 held in coal scam

GUWAHATI: A CID team set up to probe the multi crore coal scam in Barak valley has arrested 5 officers on Wednesday leaving hint of more arrested in this connection. They include Katigarh circle inspector Ilahi Borbhuyan, tax inspectors Babul Mandal and Sajal Das, Anjanjyoti Bora,  transport inspector whom the investigating officers arrested in the wee hours after eight hours of non stop interrogation.
