Centre’s NO to ST status

The centre has rejected the demands for ST status to six ethnic tribes forcing many organizations to hit the streets.

Ministry for tribal affairs sources told Assam Times in New Delhi that after a thorough study the authorities have  rejected the demands ST status for tea garden workers, Ahoms, Koch Rajbanshi, Chutias and Muttocks citing lack of laid down norms.

The decision is set to run into a hail of protest in Delhi and Dispur. The demand was long standing and both Delhi and Dispur have been assuring these ethnic tribes of their due status for the last ten years.

Both Congress and BJP promised S status for the 6 ethnic tribes for overall uplift.

This exposes the governments scandalous motives and false poll promises. This also goes against the spirits of the Pro Talks faction of ULFA , whom the government had promised the STfication of the state .Successive governments have done this and the present has proved that they are no better than the previous.

IPO shortage hits Kokrajhar hard

Kokrajhar: A sudden shortage of Indian Postal Order (IPO)  has been causing immense inconvenience for many people in Kokrajhar also along with many other places. Hundreds of people were seen waiting in queue in front of the post offices for IPO required for many official and personal purposes. Three minors meet watery grave

Principal suspended for anomalies

Kokrajhar: The BTC authority has suspended principal in-charge of Ramfalbil HS school Susil Kumar Basumatary for alleged involvement in the mid day meal and bicycle distribution scam. Basumatary received the order of his immediate suspension on Tuesday charging him with deliberately doing anomalies in the distribution of bicycles for the students.
