An ode to Amrita Pritam

The outstanding contribution of Amrita Pritam came up for a livelier discussion at the Guwahati Lit Fest on Sunday.

Participating in an interaction with author Arupa Patangia Kalita, noted poet and scholar Nirupama Dutt said that the renowned Punjabi poet played a vital role in popularizing the Punjabi literature.    

According to Dutta, Amrita Pritam’s poetry deal with the various issues that have been confronting the people not only in Punjab. She said her poetry deal with the issues of the entire country.

Dutta, who critically appreciated Amrita Pritam’s poetry further responded to a number of questions posed to her by the audience.

Clarion call for peace in Manipur

Amid an escalating tension, the Manipuri students bodies in Delhi have asked the people of all walks of life to exercise restraint. In a statement released on Monday, the Manipuri Students Association in Delhi along with two other orgsnizations have condemned the ongoing orgy of violence and blockade and counter blockade in the plains and hills. Violence erupts in Manipur

Once again Manipur is burning where Naga protestors torched many vehicles on the streets in protest against the move to create seven New districts in the restive north eastern state. Seven injured in Kokrajhar

Seven persons received serious in different two road mishaps in Kokrajhar town on Saturday evening.  Six persons sustained serious injuries due to Eon vehicle hit a scooty and bicycle at Tengapara in Kokrajhar town late last evening at around 8.30pm. Injuries were admitted immediately at MRM Hospital in Kokrajhar. They were identified as Badal Chouhan, Raja Brahma, Hatarki Mohilary, Mrinal Brahma, Dwimu Basumatary and Niranjan Basumatary.  In separate mishap at Bhawanipur near NRL oil depot, a person received serious injured. Self-defence training for lady scribes

The two-day self-defence training camp for lady scribes concluded on Sunday morning at Guwahati Press Club. Organized by the Greater Guwahati Amateur Muaythai Club in association with the press club, the training on self-defence technique was participated by over 20 scribes and journalism students. The camp was inaugurated by Guwahati DCP Amanjeet Kaur in presence of the press club secretary Nava Thakuria on 17 December 2016.
