I had no expectation: Brahma

Urkhao Gwra Brahma is immensely happy to have learnt that he would het the Sahitya Akademy for 2014. Talking to Assam Times in Kokrjhar hours after his name was announced on Friday, the prolific author said that the award was beyond his expectation.

“This is a prestigious award by a big organization in the country. My name figured in the last which I did not expected. It would encourage the new writers,” said the BPPF leader and former Rajya Sabha MP.

The eminent writer of Bodo literature has authored many epoch making books to his credit. These include his collection of poems known as Udangnifrai Gidingfinnanwi” published by Onsumoi Library,Kokrajhar in 2012.

Brahma, the former president of All Bodo Student Union started his writing in his college life and wrote several books as well short stories. A graduate from the Kokrajhar Govt College, Brahma has authored nine books reflecting the socio-cultural life of the Bodos.

Security forces apprehend a NDFB(S) cadre from Basabil area under Gossaigaon PS on Sunday in Kokrajhar district. Based on information about the presence of the militant outfit cadres in the area, a joint team of police and army launched an operation where a listed cadre of Gossaigaon platoon of the NDFB(S) was arrested along with arms.
