Guwahati bus leaves for Dhaka

After years of will-it-won’t-it, Guwahati resumed the bus service to Dhaka on Wednesday. PWD minister Ajanta Neog flagged off the bus on trial run to the neighbouring country at a brief function in Guwahati in the morning. The bus started the much-awaited journey via Shillong and Dawki border point in Meghalaya.

The regular bus service is expected to start in two months time after the joint delegation submitted the survey report. A set of modalities are also would be worked out to resume the regular bus service.

The ASTC-owned deluxe air-conditioned bus left the capital city carrying a joint delegation of India and Bangladesh for a technical survey of the route for starting a regular bus service between Guwahati and Dhaka.

The bus took the delegation to Borapani in Meghalaya from where they travelled in a smaller bus to Dawki border point. Then delegation travelled in a bus of Bangladesh. The delegation us scheduled to leave for Dhaka on Thursday morning.

In her speech, Neog said that that India-Bangladesh road connectivity will get a fresh lease of life to boost the trans border trade and commerce. Bangladesh Joint Secretary  of home affairs, Bangladesh Sheikh Abdul Ahad who was present in the function said that the service would give the people of both the countries a new avenue.

Massive protest over fake encounter in Tinsukia

IED recovered in Kakopothar

In another incident, police recovered two Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) from the kitchen garden of a house in Hahakati area under Kakopothar police station in Tinsukia district. The IEDs were buried in the garden.  Police said the IEDs, each weighing around five kg, were recovered following a tip-off. The owner of the house, Biswajit Moran, has been picked up for questioning.

Youth killed in Tinsukia firing

Security forces claimed to have killed an ULFA militant in Tinsukia district  on Saturday. Identified as Lalit Moran, the local youth was suspected to be a militant belonging to the anti-talk faction during a joint operation launched by the Army and police in Duwarmara jungle. Army and police had launched the operation after getting intelligence input regarding the presence of a group of armed men in the area.  But a section of local resident alleged it a fake encounter where the innocent youth was killed.

NFAI restores 9th Assamese film Runumi
