Run for Inclusion-2014

In an attempt to ensure a sustainable and dignified reintegration of the excluded communities including homeless, parentless, person with disability, girl children, children/person affected with HIV/AIDS, brick kiln workers, construction workers, linguistic minorities, tribal communities, high risk groups and unemployed youth into main stream society, Aide et Action International- South Asia (AEAI-SA), an international NGO  organized a solidarity event ‘Run for Inclusion-Turning dreams into reality’ – a  5 KM run on November 23, 2014 at Guwahati

Arman Ali, Director of Shisu Sarothi   flagged off the event at 8:30 Am at Assam Engineering Field, Chandmari and ended at Guwahati Refinery Field, Sector II, Noonmati. More than 250 participants including students, home makers, working professionals, youth, civil society organisations and people from various excluded and marginalised communities participated in the run and express their solidarity for the excluded and marginalised communities.

“AEAI-SA through its interventions in thematic areas like  access and quality education, inclusive education, migration, sustainable development and global citizenship education was able to reach more than 500, 000 people from excluded and marginalised sections of the society out of which  1, 84, 085 were youth”, said Ravi Pratap Singh, Regional Director, AEAI-SA.

The run was organized simultaneously in 25 cities across India in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Bihar, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, New Delhi, and Assam. The run also took place in Sri Lanka and Nepal and resources mobilised through this mega event would be used for quality education of children and enabling better employment opportunities for youths from the poor and weaker sections of the society.

The run is one of the biggest community mobilization events in the South Asia region and is an extension of the Aide et Action International's Run against exclusion that already took place in Paris and Lyon - France, Chicago- US, Australia, China, Cambodia Dominican Republic and Togo. Last year the run was organized in 58 cities in South Asia and was successful in mobilizing 1, 00,000 people to participate in the run.
