The Assam government and its Nagaland counterpart have agreed to defuse border tension at the earliest. Both the states reached the understanding when Assam chief secretaries JS Khola and Toshi Aier had a crucial meet in Dispur on Wednesday.
They decided to ensure that the local issues or disputes are dealt with speedily. The ongoing border tension in Golaghat district also came up for discussion in the meeting where both sides agreed to restore peace and normalcy.
Both the chief secretaries are believed to have agreed that local disputes should not be linked with the border-related issues as it is currently under the consideration of the Supreme Court.
Principal Secretary Home and Political Department of Assam MGVK Bhanu also attended the meeting at secretariat along with revenue commissioner and Secretary G D Tripathi.
The meeting held in pursuance of the decision taken during the meeting of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh with the Chief Ministers of both the States in New Delhi.
