Yet another dowry-related death sends no less shock and anger in Nagaon district where police have drawn flak for failure.

The incident took place in Bhoraguri village in Puranigudam where a woman was allegedly killed by her in laws on Wednesday night. Identified as Dharitri Gayan, the 16 year old was married to Pankaj Gayan eight ago.

According to Dharitri’s family members, she has been facing inhuman torture by the in laws for the last couple of months only because of dowry.

Dharitri was found burning under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday night and her body was rushed to Guwahati. But of no avail. She breathed her last as she was undergoing treatment on Thursday wee hours.

Her family members have called it a murder case and moved police for action. But much to a major disappointment, police have yet to arrest anybody in this connection.

Raha administration plastic cleanliness drive

NAGAON: As part of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's  call during his Independence Day speech to clean up the environment from plastic, the local administration here along with Raha Municipality Board (RMB) on Saturday launched a drive at Raha Toll Plaza along the four-lane highway to clean up the plastic garbage from the area. Notorious snatcher held , hand made pistol seized

Nagaon: The Nagaon police today apprehended a snatcher from Bhakatgaon bazar.    Identified as Bilal Uddin of Silongoni village , the apprehended person was involved in a snatching case under Sadar P S.    One hand made pistol was also recovered from the possession of the accused. Encephalitis toll mounts

Japanese Encephalitis claimed as many as 64 lives in different parts of the state till Tuesday. The number of affected people reached 265 on Tuesday. KMSS burns effigy of PM

Nagaon: Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) chief Akhil Gogoi on Tuesday announced a state-wide effigy burning protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the announcement of not declaring Assam flood as a ‘national issue’. As part of this state-wide protest , the district unit of Nagaon KMSS today burnt the effigy of PM Narendra Modi at Krishnaikhat on four-lane highway raising slogans against the BJP led government in centre and state. Truck driver arrested for reporting fake hijack

Nagaon: A Guwahati based truck driver and his wife have been arrested for reporting a fake truck hijacking case at the Raha police station , police said here on Sunday. Abhi - Neel murder case: Court declares two witness hostile

Nagaon: The Chief Judicial Magistrate court Nagaon declared two witness namely Numal Basumatari and Ujjal Mesh of Abhi Neel case as hostile.
