Journalist Jaiklong Brahma arrested
Jaiklong Brahma, a senior journalist in Kokrajhar, was arrested by police on Tuesday night in Kokrajhar for links with NDFB (Songbijit faction). Brahma, who is currently working as Correspondent with a Guwahati based satellite television channel. Brahma was called by police for personal discussion at Kokrajhar Sadar police station, but later arrested.
Sunil Kumar, SP Kokrajhar said that Brahma was arrested for allegedly voluntarily inciting the banned terrorist organization for committing violence since last few months. He said that he was arrested under a case at Kokrajhar police station no.367/14,U/S 120(B)/121/121(A) 109 IPC R/W sec 10/13(B)/18 UAP (Amendment) Act 2008.
Brahma was was produced before court on Wednesay.
Media fraternity and family members protested the arrest and demanded unconitional release of Brahma.

Former president of Kokrajhar district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party, Binati Bala Basumatary resigned from her party membership on Monday. Basumatary submitted her resignation letter to the state party president citating personal reason . She was Kokrajhar district BJP president for 2011-2015, who had gained strength of the party through her strong leadership in the district. Basumatary's quit of the party ahead assembly election would draw a set back party strength in the Kokrajhar. Three cadres of the NDFB(S) were arrested by security forces in a joint operation belonging to police and army at Hakata village under Barama PS in Baksa district on Sunday. The cadres were identified as Jwangsar Boro @ KK, Mohit Mushahary and Pramod Ramchiary @ Khankari @Raja of Baksa district. They were actively involved in extortion, arms smuggling and other nefarious and anti national activities and Adivasi carnage in December(2014) and had run away and sheltered themselves in Chennai, till their return.
