The Raha unit of All Assam Students' Union ( AASU ) has expressed deep concern at the development centering round the transferring of all consumer relating official works of Raha ASEB office to Morigaon ASEB office and proposed inclusion of Raha ASEB office with Morigaon circle from the present Nagaon circle as decided by the ASEB higher authority from September 1, 2014. Various organizations, NGOs, student and youth bodies as well as senior citizens of the town have joined together against the proposed inclusion and even threatened to take resort to mass agitation programme.
Talking to Assam Times on Friday the leaders and members of Raha AASU unit expressed serious concern and anguish over Assam Electricity Board’s ( ASEB ) decision to tie up ASEB’s Raha sub-divisional office with Morigaon Circle from its present position Nagaon Circle. The Raha AASU unit president Sanjay Kakati , General Secretary Pankaj Hazarika, and advisor Mridul Hazarika said , ‘’ ASEB’s Raha sub-divisional office is operating under ASEB’s Nagaon Circle office since the former’s establishment here at Raha. But now ASEB authority has decided to include the Raha office in Morigaon Circle for the reasons best known to them. We strongly criticize the decision taken by ASEB authority.''
The AASU unit further said they asked the higher authority not to move further on the issue, but the authority did not pay heed to AASU's request and so they have decided to lock the ASEB Raha office from September 1 for an indefinite period with the help of the local residents of the town and also resort to mass agitation against ASEB authority.
The discontent students’ body said, “ Raha is a part of Nagaon district and not Morigaon district. Raha has a good communication link with Nagaon and it is ridiculous on the part of ASEB higher authority to include the Raha office with Morigaon Circle.”
