Flood scene marginally improves

The overall flood situation marginally improves on Wednesday with the halt of rains in Arunachal Pradesh. But the level of misery refuses to die down in fifteen affected districts.

The water levels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries have not gone up during that last 24 hours. But the rivers are flowing above the danger mark.

In Majuli, the flood waters have been gradually receding much to a major respite for the people in the river island. The ferry services have resumed on Tuesday.

Five teams of the National Disaster Response Force are carrying out relief and rescue operation in the flood-hit areas. The floodwaters this time have affected crops on 90,867 hectares across the state.

Altogether 118 relief camps have been set up in the 15 districts to provide shelter to 95,922 people in the 15 flood-affected districts -- Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Nalbari, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Morigaon, Kamrup, Dhubri, Kokrajhar and Karbi Anglong besides Dhemaji and Lakhimpur. /
