International women's day was observed by Kingkhap

The Kingkhap Assamese ladies association of Kharghar celebrated international women's day at Mile Stone party hall in a befitting manner. Noted journalist Sobita Goswami, welknown physician Dr. Bobbita Ghodke were invited to grace the association as guest of honour . The function started with lighting of the lamp by the honoured guest followed by the felicitation with Assamese Gamosa and a bouquet.

The kingkhap is a newly formed ladies organisation. President Deepali Das delivered the welcome address and Secretary Ruma Hazarika also spoke about the significance of women's day. Sobita Goswami presented a valuable speech on the importance of women in the society. Dr. Bobita Ghodke stressed on the subject mainly women's health-care and nutrition. The members presented a colourful cultural programme of songs and dance of Assam.

Adviser of the association Dr. Madurima Kalita highlighted the importance of female child in terms of human generation. Dr. Jyotrimoy Das also spoke a few words on the occasion. Aparup Borpuzari and Suman Verma addressed the gathering from the audience side. There was light refreshment of Assamese snacks prepared by the members of the club. The function was attended by Assamese as well as non-Assamese person of Navi Mumbai area. The entire programme was conducted and anchored by Indrani Sharma Borpujari.

A special court in Guwahati has asked the Central Bureau of Investigation to institute a fresh probe into the PC Ram killing case. The National Green Tribunal has asked the ministry of environment and forests to step up action against the unauthorized industrial units operating in the No Development Zone around the Kaziranga National Park in Assam. The Tribunal, however, asked the ministry to obtain its prior permission before taking any coercive action against three tea processing units operating within the No Development Zone near Numaligarh Refinery near the Kaziranga park, which is home to the largest population of one-horned rhinoceros. Security forces arrested five UNLF militants from Jorabat area in the city on Friday. The militants were travelling in a car from Aizawl in Mizoram to Guwahati when the police and CRPF personnel intercepted them. Another UNLF cadre was picked up from Paltan Bazar area in the city on the basis of confessional statements of an arrested person.The arrested militants were identified as Warren alias Hitler, Waikhom Robinson, Samjet Sabam Laiteng, Lallawmpuia Champai and Moirangtham Joy alias Robin, the police said.According to police, the arrest suggest that Guwahati has become a gateway to the insurgent elements in North eastern region.

Asom Gana Parishad president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta on Thursday charged Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi with resorting to blatant lies on the annual play outlay for 2012-2013 recently fixed in New Delhi. Asom Gana Parishad on Thursday backed NCP leader PA Sangma in the presidential polls slated for July. Talking to reporter in Guwahati on Thursday, party president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta said that they would back a tribal from the north east as President. Police on Thursday arrested a KLO member charging him with kidnapping and murdering Gadapani Pathak last month. The KLO leader was identified as Putul Ray from Aagomoni area who allegedly killed the agriculture department superintendent engineer in Boitamari on May 2 when he was travelling with an executive engineer Faizur Islam.
