As many as sixteen people have been injured while a powerful bomb exploded in Tinsukia town at around 1 pm on Saturday. According to information, the blast took place at the busy GNB Road in front of a grocery. The injured people have been rushed to the hospital. High level police and civil officials have arrived in the spot to start operation. Meanwhile, one more crude bomb have been recovered just before a while. Details are awaited.

Preparations for the coming Seventh Elephant festival has begun along with the construction work of the pendal that formally started on January 18. The DC of Golaghat planted the Laikhuta with a ritual process in a brief function organized in Mihimukh field. The programme was also attended by SDO(c) of Bokakhat and the Director of KNP. In yet another case of rhino attack, a woman died in Sonitpur district on Saturday morning.According to information, the incident took place at at Banpur Hokomara Gopsar under Jamuguri police station at around 10 in the morning. Dubai based "Axam Xamaj", (Assam Society, UAE, Dubai) celebrated Magh Bihu on Friday, the 16th January, 2009, with a day long program. The venue for the celebrations was the scenic Creek Side Park, located right in the heart of the city of Dubai.
