Peace restores in Baksa

Normalcy is back in Baksa forcing the authorities to lift curfew clamped to avoid yet another string of group clash in the BTAD district.

There is no report of any untoward incident during the last 24 hours from any part of the district after the Tuesday’s incident where unidentified gun men shot dead a student leader in the district.

Mob lynching revisits Karbi Anglong

In a horrific incident, a 40-year old man was lynched in a village of Karbi-Anglong on Sunday night. As per reports, a mob of some villagers brutally assulted a man to death. The victim was identified as Monsing Rongpi. He was a resident of  the Karashi Bey village under the Bakalia police station. The mob first took him to a football field where they tied him to a goalpost before beating him mercilessly. Due to the assult, Rongpi died at the spot, reports said. Rs 240 crore for 7 lakh tea workers

Guwahati: Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched distribution of Rs 240 crore to over 7 lakh tea garden workers at a function in Guwahati on Saturday. All these tea garden workers would get Rs 3,000 each  in their bank accounts.   In his address state finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government was in the process of revising the daily wage amount for the tea garden workers very soon.

18-km-long solar powered fences to protect from wild elephants

Premier biodiversity conservation organisation Aaranyak has installed 18 km of solar powered fence to facilitate human-elephant coexistence at Nagirjuli, Baksa. This initiative will ensure food security and substantial decrease in human-elephant conflict incidents, thus directly benefiting approximately 15,000 people of 35 hamlets in 12 villages. The installation of solar-powered fences was conducted with extensive support from local communities and Forest Department, and funded by Elephant Family Foundation India. AJP, Raijor Dal to fight polls jointly

Guwahati : AJP and Raijor Dal will fight the upcoming assembly polls jointly. This was what the leaders of both the regional parties told media in Guwahati on Friday.  AJP president and Raijor Dal leader Bhaskar De Saikia said that they would maintain equidistance with AIUDF, Congress and BJP.  They further said that never they would have any patch up with any national party and that they would keep doors open for the regional parties.  Lyrinjyoti Gogoi and Jagadish Bhuyan called on Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi at GMCH on Thursday where both the new regional parties struck deal. 

Lurinjyoti Gogoi rules out alliance with national party

Asam Jatiya Parishad president Lurinjyoti Gogoi categorically ruled out any alliance with a national party for the upcoming Assam assembly elections. Guwahati: AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi and general secretary Jagdish Bhuyan visited Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi in Guwahati on Thursday amid the speculations of the move to forge alliance to fight against BJP and Congress. Diphu: There is no breakthrough in the food poisoning case in Diphu 2 days after a BJP worker died and over 130 fell ill when they consumed packet launched served at a government function.
