AICC gets tougher with dissidents

There is hardly any chance of change in Assam Chief Minister in near future. This was what party high command virtually said in New Delhi on Thursday.

Hours after the dissidents gave Sonia Gandhi 48 hours ultimatum to dislodge Tarun Gogoi as chief minister, Congress high command made it plain and simple nobody has any right to high command any ultimatum.

Talking to reporters, party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that change of chief minister is unlikely under pressure.

"There is nothing in all this speculation. The high command will take a decision in the matter," he said.

The high command cannot be taken into rushing into any hasty decision, said Singhvi. He further said that Vice President Rahul Gandhi can take any decision on the leadership issue.

The party high command cleared its position hours after the dissident camp led by Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma stepped up pressure on the state party leadership for removing Gogoi as chief minister.
