Students, who thronged the BPF party office and Bodofa Cultural Complex in Kokrajhar town after rumour of BPF would distribute money to students for admission and buy books turned to violent with vandalised of office materials and vehicles.
Thousands of people, mostly students and some even elderly women were seen making bee line towards the BPF office at JD Road and Bodofa Culural Complex at Chandamari since early morning around 7 am on Saturday.
Many came in hired vehicles from various districts of BTAD.
As the day programme when they found no one turning up and did not get proper information, the angry youths gheraoed the BPF party office by the afternoon.
Pramila Rani Brahma, local MLA of Kokrajahr east had to face the angry of the public when she went to the party office to pacify the youths. She was gheaored when she came out of the office, at RNB road for an hour and later took her to Rashmela field and continued to gheraoed her till 6.30 pm. She was again forced to walk towards teh party office. Though police arrived on the spot but could do little.
According to the youths, many had received cash money to buy books and take admission. They said they were asked to come to the party office Saturday.
Sources said the youths were made false promises by some people in the party and had asked them to come.
They said they were not given proper infomation and instead were asked to go to the Bodofa Cultural Complex. The youths break open the gate at the Cultural complex when the guard there tried to stop them at the gate. A guard was injured in the process.
Later, students who thronged the party office since morning entered office and started to vandalised of chairs,tables and properties of office losing patients of waiting leaders from party by the evening around 6.40 pm.
The district administration,Kokrajhar has to deployed security forces along JD Road and party office to controll the move of students and resorted to lathi charge and tear gas to disperse the students from party office.
Several vehicles including bikes of media fraternity were also damaged in the incident when mediamen rushed the party office to collect reports.
Nitin Khade,Kokrajhar deputy commissioner has appealed to all section of community to maintain peace and harmony in the district.
