Noted writer and retired IRS Janaklal Basumatary unveiled ‘the Saga of the Bodos’, a history book authored by noted historian and educationist Hiracharan Narjinary at a programme held at Sahara Hotel in Kokrajhar on Thursday.
Narjinary, writer and publisher of the book said this book is a story of the people called Bodos, who are one of the most ancient races of eastern India. The Bodos along with other cognate tribes participated in the Mahabharata War under the supreme commandership of King of Bhagadatta of Pragjyotisa who was an ally of the Kauravas. They were the most powerful people who built up strong kingdoms under various names Varmans, the Salastambhas, the Pals, the Chutiyas, the Kacharies, the Koches etc. They held sway over one or another part of the northeastern India during different pre-historical and historical times. Their power gradually dwindled down and at length they were reduced to insignificant people. The present study focuses on the historical, linguistic and political history of the Bodo people, their struggle for a geopolitical power and the demand for a separate state of Bodoland to be carved out of the present state of Assam.
