Bus catches fire; students safe

Over 50 school goers managed to escape tragic death in Guwahati when a bus carrying the students caught fire on Wednesday.

The incident took place at Nineth Mile area in Guwahati where a city bus carrying at least 50 students was on its way to the CRPF Kendriya Vidyalaya.

The bus driver and his assistant noticed smoke bellowing from the engine and stopped the bus at a stone’s throw distance from the school. Local residents in large number came out to their rescue.

They helped the students get down from the bus quickly. Fire extinguishers were deployed inside the bus and thus the situation was brought under control.

Security forces claimed to have killed an ULFA militant in Tinsukia district  on Saturday. Annada Gohain, a resident of Kharghuli, breathed her last on 19th September 2011 at a private hospital in Guwahati at the age of 81 years.
