Veteran Assamese film personality Abdul Majid passed away following a brief illness on Sunday. The end came at 7 in the morning at GNRC where he the award winning film actor was undergoing treatment.
Born in Jorhat in 1931, Majid started his career as actor in theatre in 1950. His name and fame started shining when he played a crucial role in Chameli Memshab which won national film award directed by Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
Since then he has been an indomitable figure in this field. A pall of gloom has descended across the state following the death of the film doyen.
People irrespective of castes, religions, condoled the sudden death of the veteran actor and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
