PM coming to cast vote

Dispur turns into a security fortress a day before the third and final phase of Lok Sabha polls. Dispur Govt HS School seems to have drawn maximum concentration of the security forces.

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is all set to visit the school to exercise his franchise on Thursday. Dr Singh, who is on his last visit to the state as a prime minister, is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati Airport at 12 noon by a special plane.

Then Dr Singh, who represents Assam in the Rajya Sabha, will straightly leave for Dispur by a helicopter where he would cast his vote at the Dispur Govt HS School at around 12-30.

During his brief visit to the capital city, Dr Singh will meet chief minister Tarun Gogoi and state Congress president Bhubneswar Kalita.

A team of special protection group has already arrived in the school premises to ensure safety and security of the prime minister whom Assam adopted in 1991.

Cost of PM and his family visit for casting vote in Assam msut be recover from his personal account as voter has to trevel to electoral booth at own cost/vehical as per the People Representation Act, there is no provisin of TA/DA/others allowances to voter for casting their votes

KMSS occupies Lohia plot

In a historic happening, thousands of people acquired a huge plot of land in the outskirt of Guwahati belonging to a businessman who owned it for industrial purpose.Led by Krishak Mukti Sanggram Samiti, the local residents in Khetri thronged the huge plot of 38 bighas belonging to Bajrang Lohia alleging that the entire cultivable plot is set to be used in industrial purpose.KMSS president Akhil Gogoi told reporters that these plots would be distributed among the landless local people in Dimoria.The historic initiative took place a day after Gogoi warned a circle of powerful businessmen to hand over their plots in question to be used by the landless and flood –affected lot.

ULFA-I reiterates diktat

ULFA’s anti-talk faction threatens to disrupt the Republic Day celebrations with subversive activities forcing the authorities to intensify the combing operation and strict vigil across the state on Sunday.In an e-mail sent to media on Thursday, the militant outfit said that they would take resort to trouble mongering tactic to disrupt the red letter day celebrations.The warning mail issued two days after ULFA-I along with 11 other militant outfits operating in the north eastern region issued a diktat to boycott the Republic Day celebration. They asked the people to avoid any visit to the public places on that day.

Despite heavy deployment of security forces, Guwahati turns into a safe haven for dreaded militants who can carry out subversive activities in the run up to the Republic day celebrations.According to inputs available with police, two hardcore ULFA militants are believed to have entered into the city to strike on the Republic Day. KMSS ultimatum to businessmen

KMSS on Wednesday gave one week’s ultimatum to three land mafias to surrender their cultivable plot. Otherwise, these plots would be occupied.Disclosing this, the peasant body president Akhil Gogoi told reporters in a press conference that under no circumstances the trio Suresh Prithani would be allowed to retain the plots. Gogoi said that these plots would be allowed to be used by the flood and erosion affected people.  

Day light dacoity in Guwahati

Guwahati is teeming with security forces. But the city is yet to get out of the militants, thieves and dacoits.Two armed youths were caught by local residents in the city after they looted properties worth several lakhs from a house in the broad day light on Wednesday.The incident took place at Srinagar area at 12 noon when the armed youths looted the money and gold ornaments at gunpoint.But the local residents who came out in large number overpowered the duo. After being caught, the duo were handed over to the police.        

Big win for Cong in Assam: Joshi

AICC general secretary Dr CP Joshi on Wednesday said that all the Lok Sabha seats in Assam would go in favour of Congress.Talking to reporters at the Rajiv Bhawan premises in Guwahati, the AICC in charge attached to Assam said that the ruling party would be able to put up a commendable show in the upcoming general election.Dr Joshi’s hoped the big win hours after Union minister Oscar Fernandes said that Congress in Assam would be able to do very well in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Talking to reporters at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on Wednesday morning, Fernandes said that the party is expected to win all the seats in the polls. 

Joshi dismisses dissidence

AICC general has totally dismissed any dissidence within the party legislative body saying that he has not heard of it.Talking to reporters in the sidelines of the party executive body meeting at the Rajiv Bhawan on Wednesday, he said that nobody has approached him with any note of dissidence.     

Let Modi come: Gogoi

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday dared Narendra Modi to woo the voters in the run up to the upcoming Lok Sabbha polls.Talking to reporters in the sidelines of the party executive body meeting at the Rajiv Bhawan on Wednesday, Gogoi said that Rahul Gandhi is not required to take on the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate. Gogoi said that he can alone take on the Gujarat Chief Minister. “Let Narendra Modi come to hold rally in Guwahati. I will take on him alone,” Gogoi said.  The chief minister further exuded confidence that Congress will win 12 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. 

Deer recovered in Guwahati

Rapid deforestation seems to have put the wild animals in danger. Local residents in Guwahati caught a deer from the human habitaton Wednesday. The deer was spotted in Noonmati area by a section of local residents after it sneaked into the human habitat in the morning. They caught the animal and handed over to the local police station before it was sent to the forest department.  

Cong to win 14 seats: Fernandes

Union minister Oscar Fernandes said on Wednesday that Congress in Assam would be able to do very well in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Talking to reporters at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on Wednesday morning, Fernandes said that the party is expected to win all the seats in the polls.He further said that Narendra Modi has hardly any impact in Assam and that the BJP’s prime ministerial candidates won’t be able to garner support from the state.
