Tarun Gogoi dead

Guwahati: Veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is dead. He passed away in the evening at Guwahati Medical College Hospital where he was undergoing treatment of post COVID complications.

His condition deteriorated on Saturday as his organs did not properly respond to the line of treatment.

Congress president Anjan Dutta told reporters in Guwahati on Saturday that the four executive members of the Dima Hasao autonomous council have left the party not going by the peoples’ wish. “They did it only money and power. Apprehending outbreak of a volatile situation over the beef controversy chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday urged the people to go all out against the dirty politics to monger trouble in the state.In a statement Gogoi accused some “fringe groups” of the BJP of trying to foment trouble by importing the beef controversy and to extract political mileage thereof. He said, “the government is maintaining a close vigil over the situation and timely intervention of the government machinery prevented the situation from snowballing into chaos.”

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi lambasted Narendra Modi on Friday allegedly that the Prime Minister has been maintaining a stoic silence on the Dadri incident where a 50 year old man was pu t death amid speculation of keeping beef for consumption. In a statement issued in Guwahati, Gogoi said Modi’s silence is stoic which threatened to create a rift in society on communal lines.
