Tarun Gogoi dead

Guwahati: Veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is dead. He passed away in the evening at Guwahati Medical College Hospital where he was undergoing treatment of post COVID complications.

His condition deteriorated on Saturday as his organs did not properly respond to the line of treatment.

Many people sustained injury when security forces sprang upon a group of KMSS activists in Guwahati who opposed the process to auction a dozen of oil fields in Assam on Saturday. The ex-president of Asom Sahitya Sabha Dr Lakshinandan Bora is selected for the "Sundarar Sadhak Ananta Ram Das Award" for this year 2016 in Barpeta by Ananta Ram Das Smriti Prakashan aimed at giving the new trend to the Assamese culture and literature. The Adivasi people in Assam again raised demands before the Centre to accord immediate ST status to help them develop on all fronts. Submitting a memorandum before the home ministry in New Delhi on Tuesday, the All Adivasi Student Association of Assam said that over the years they have received only assurances and it has yet to be materialized. They said that the ST status should not have any area restriction. The demand is not new. They were assured of the status before the assembly polls. But that has not happened along with 5 other ethnic tribes.
