Police arrested two suspected drug traffickers during a joint operation at Augurijan in Bihubar on Friday night, as part of a crackdown on the alleged drug trade in the border areas of Nazira.

The accused have been identified as Dibyajyoti (Pawan) Das and Manas Pratim Gogoi. According to sources, the duo was allegedly transporting drugs from Mon district in neighbouring Nagaland when police intercepted them. Das reportedly hails from Rajabari Palashani in Sivasagar, while Gogoi is a resident of Chepan.

Personnel from Sivasagar Sadar Police Station, Nazira Model Police Station and Bihubar Police Station jointly conducted the operation.

Police reportedly seized ₹77,000 in cash, two containers containing suspected drugs locally referred to as “golden,” and a motorcycle from their possession.

Police sources further indicated that Das was allegedly associated with suspected drug traffickers Raju Ali and Rupam Dey and was involved in the illicit drug trade.

Following the arrests, police registered a suo motu case at Bihubar Police Station and began interrogating the accused to gather further information about the alleged trafficking network and its links.

The arrests come amid continuing police efforts to curb drug trafficking in Nazira, particularly in areas bordering Nagaland. Further investigation is underway.
