BTR Gorkha Samaj Celebrates Nepali Language Day, Confers Gorkha Gaurav Samman

Kokrajhar, Aug 22: The Central Committee of the BTR Gorkha Samaj on Thursday celebrated the 34th Nepali Language Recognition Day alongside its 5th Foundation Day with a day-long programme at Saralpara in Kokrajhar. The event honoured distinguished members of the Gorkha community with the prestigious Gorkha Gaurav Samman for their contributions in diverse fields.

Among the awardees was Raju Dhakal, General Secretary of the Assam Gorkha Sammelan and Officer on Special Duty to BTC Chief Pramod Boro, who was recognised for his leadership and advocacy on issues including D-voter concerns, biometric errors, land rights, political representation, and grassroots initiatives in health and education across the Bodoland Territorial Region.

Other recipients included cultural activists Shanta Sirpali and Ram Rai, journalists Krishnaraj Sangraula and Nand Budhathoki, and MCLA Madhav Chetry, each acknowledged for their dedication to community service and cultural preservation.

The programme was attended by several prominent leaders, including Kokrajhar East MLA Lawrence Islary, former minister Chandan Brahma, and former BTC Deputy CEM Kampa Borgoyary, who lauded the contributions of the Gorkha community in safeguarding their identity and promoting socio-cultural unity.

The celebration underscored the community’s continuing efforts to preserve the Nepali language and Gorkha identity, while also recognising achievers who have brought pride to the region.
