Tangla College Gears Up for Golden Jubilee Celebration

Udalguri, Jan 31: Tangla College, a beacon of higher education in Udalguri and the erstwhile Darrang district, is set to celebrate its Golden Jubilee with a grand six-day event from February 1 to 6. Established in 1970, the college has played a pivotal role in shaping generations of students across disciplines, including Arts, Commerce, Science, and Computer Science (BCA).

The celebration will feature an open session graced by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker and Paneri MLA Biswajit Daimari, BTC Chief Executive Member Promod Boro, and Cabinet Ministers Dr. Ranoj Pegu and Pijush Hazarika, among other dignitaries.

The festivities will include a vibrant cultural procession featuring students and local artists, alongside sports competitions such as marathons, kabaddi, volleyball, and football. Literary contests, a book fair, and an exhibition highlighting literary works and institutional milestones will add intellectual depth to the celebrations. The event will culminate in a grand cultural night, with performances by Indian Idol fame Pawandeep Rajan and Bollywood singer Ritu Pathak.

Dr. Prasen Daimari, Principal of Tangla College and Chief Secretary of the Reception Committee, expressed gratitude to all involved in organizing the milestone event. He urged alumni, faculty, students, and well-wishers to come together in celebrating the rich legacy of the institution.

Founded through the visionary leadership of Late Hiralal Patowary (former MP), Late Ramesh Chandra Saharia (former Assam Home Minister), and Late Upendra Nath Bora, Tangla College has been a cornerstone of academic excellence. Under the stewardship of its first Principal, Dr. Tara Charan Rastogi, the institution laid a strong foundation for quality education.

The college boasts an illustrious alumni network, including former Parliamentarian Madhab Rajbongshi, retired IAS officer and former Accountant General of Assam Pinuel Basumatary, and two Sahitya Akademi Award-winning faculty members—Dr. Arupa Patangia Kalita (English) and Dr. Rita Boro (Bodo).

As Tangla College marks 50 years of academic distinction, the Golden Jubilee celebration promises to be a fitting tribute to its legacy and future aspirations.
