Border Village Residents in Nazira Demand Repair of Crumbling Road
Locals of No. 2 Lahon village say the two-kilometre stretch becomes nearly impassable during rains, affecting students, patients and daily commuters.
Residents of No. 2 Lahon village in the Simolubari area of Geleky, along the Assam–Nagaland border in the 97 No. Nazira Legislative Assembly Constituency, have renewed their demand for the repair and reconstruction of a severely damaged village road that they say has remained neglected for years.
The nearly two-kilometre stretch, which serves as a vital link for the village, reportedly turns into a muddy and almost impassable track even after light rainfall, making daily travel difficult for residents.
According to villagers, schoolchildren, patients and commuters are among those worst affected, as the road becomes unsafe and difficult to navigate during the monsoon. Residents say they continue to face severe hardship despite repeated claims of infrastructure development.
Locals alleged that they have submitted several appeals over the years to the village panchayat, the area's MLA and the district administration, requesting that the road be repaired and rebuilt. However, they claim no meaningful action has been taken.
With the onset of the rainy season worsening the condition of the road, residents have once again appealed to the newly elected MLA of the constituency and the concerned panchayat authorities to take immediate steps to reconstruct the road using proper engineering standards.
They said timely intervention would not only improve connectivity but also bring relief to villagers who have endured years of transportation difficulties.
