BTR Accord Implementation Reviewed in New Delhi

NAZIRA, August 14, 2026 — A high-level meeting in New Delhi reviewed the implementation of commitments made under the 2020 BTR Accord, with participants raising several pending issues and calling for faster action.

The meeting was held at the official residence of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityananda Rai and was attended by Neeraj Bansod, Joint Secretary for the North East at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Representatives of the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU), United Bodo People's Organisation (UBPO) and former NDFB members participated in the discussions. Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Boro and Lok Sabha MP Joyanta Basumatary were also present.

The review covered several issues linked to the implementation of the accord, including the proposed 125th Amendment to the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, the demand for ST (Hill) status for Boro Kachari communities in Karbi Anglong, and welfare and development measures for the Bodoland Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC).

Other issues discussed included the withdrawal of cases against former NDFB members, ex-gratia assistance for the families of martyrs, the release of Ranjan Daimary and five others, provincialisation of schools and special recruitment drives for local youth.

Participants also discussed the establishment of institutions and infrastructure under the Special Development Package and a proposed Centre of Excellence in the name of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma.

The participants stressed the need for coordinated efforts and speedy implementation of the commitments made under the BTR Accord.
