Nazira mother dies after seeing son’s body in double tragedy

NAZIRA, August 10, 2026 — A 48-year-old woman died after collapsing on seeing the body of her 31-year-old son, who was killed in a road accident, adding another tragedy to the suffering in flood-hit Nazira.

Dhiren Gogoi, a driver from Lakhimi Ali near Nazira Police Station, died after his vehicle was crushed in a collision involving a stone-laden dumper and a container truck at Dikum on the night of August 7.

His body was brought home on Sunday. His mother, Rupa Gogoi, collapsed after seeing him and was rushed to Nazira Sub-Divisional Civil Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Dhiren’s wife also reportedly lost consciousness and is undergoing treatment. He leaves behind his wife and a three-year-old daughter.

Flooding further complicated the last rites, with residents struggling to find suitable ground for cremation. Dhiren was cremated at Amolapatti crematorium in Nazira, while his mother was cremated at Simoluguri town crematorium.

The double tragedy has left the family and the Lakhimipukhuri locality in deep mourning, adding to the grief already gripping flood-ravaged Nazira.
